I wish to invite attention of the visitors to the tag line of the Geospatial Delhi Limited i.e. ‘Geo-Knowledge Enterprise’. This tag line has been carefully chosen to present the nature of work and the responsibilities taken up by GSDL. In keeping with the provision of Geospatial Delhi Act, 2011 the ownership of the Geospatial Data layers created by the DSSDI Project and subsequently updated by the Departments of GNCTD and other authorities, lies with the Govt. of NCT of Delhi. The Geospatial Delhi Limited has been assigned the role of custodian of this rich Spatial Data Infrastructure. This particular role bestows upon GSDL the advantage of “One + One = Eleven”. Many Departments of GNCTD and other Authorities, both Public & Private on the territory of Delhi are having GIS Expertise, their own GIS cells and their Spatial Data repository. By mandating the departments to contribute their Geospatial Data to the Central Hub maintained by GSDL and by requiring the departments to update their data layers, the central hub assumes colossal importance. The advantages of GIS are seen in discovering and effectively utilizing association between Spatial objects from different categories. This advantage becomes available to all Stakeholders thus giving them immense possibilities to explore and exploit this association towards more efficient and more transparent decision making in Governance.

GSDL, as a facilitator for this explosion of possibilities, plays a unique role in understanding the Geospatial issues of Governance and contributing to their solution through the Geo-Knowledge repository within its laboratories.

The GSDL today has semiformal human resources structure comprising mainly of young Geospatial & IT Professionals and a few experienced Technical & Administrative Personals. This combination is able to deliver the expected service in a very efficient manner. With the growth in activities, it is proposed to move to a more formal structure for a sustained contribution to the E-Governance and G-Governance initiatives in GNCTD, as expected of it by the Geospatial Delhi Act, 2011.
